Chris Cosby

BSc Kin, MSc PT, MclSc APP, FCAMPT, CCMI, ITPT

Chris is an experienced athlete and when he is not working you will find him out kiteboarding, snowboarding, mountain biking or practicing jui jitsu. He previously competed in various types of distance running events in his youth and also rowed competitively. As an athlete who has had his fair share of injuries himself he understands the importance of keeping athletes engaged in their sports during their recovery.

Clinical Experience

Chris has a decade of experience as a physiotherapist treating complex orthopaedic conditions. His advanced training and ongoing clinical practice has devdeloped a comprehensive assessment and treatment approach. He incorporates all the latest technologies in his treatments including: IMS, Shockwave Therapy, Virtual Reality Rehabilitation, Visual and Vestibular therapies. He has researched and studied extensively the treatment of complex and persistent issues of the shoulder, foot, neck and back. He has developed progressive treatment protocols for many these conditions which he guides his clients through in a detail. He prides himself on continuing to develop his professional skills to provide the most comprehensive care to his patients beyond the basic physiotherapy scope of practice.

Sports Therapy Experience

Chris has worked with a variety of professional athletes and sports teams in football, track and cross country running, rowing, rugby, skiing, snowboarding, climbing, and mountain biking. On a daily basis, Chris treats international and local professional athletes as well as amateurs in his Whistler and Squamish practices where he focuses on providing the most up to date evidence informed practice. His experience in these sports mecas has developed his sports injury diagnostic skills where he regularly diagnoses over a dozen new acute injuries every week. He is regularly participating in these sports where is he constantly using his Kinesiology and Physiotherpay background in analyzing biomechanics, potential injuries and areas of overuse to develop treatments for addressing them. 

Advanced Credentials

His Advanced Practice Degree training has set him apart from most therapists with his developed advanced research integration skills allowing him to keep up to date with the most recent evidence. He regularly participates in knowledge translation efforts and helps spread the new research to his colleagues and other professionals. He is currently working on research on managing acute and chronic ACL injuries to prevent osteoarthritis. He has conducted the highest level of research (meta analysis) through a research study he performed at Western University in 2018 on advanced concussion rehabilitation and is currently planning future research studies on incorporating new technologies into practice to help push the professions technological development.  

Manual Therapy

Chris is adapt at Manual Therapy holding the highest level of international certification after completing all 5 levels of Advanced Orthopaedic training, a Clinical Masters Degree and a Fellowship Experience. He has mentored many new physiotherapists in developing their skills utilizing a modern approach to these techniques. He welcomes therapists to contact him who wish to advance their manual therapy skills.

Chris's Life

In his youth, Chis competed internationally in rowing and cross-country. He now enjoys an amateur approach to his athletics focusing on mountain biking, kiteboarding, snowboarding. He is working his way back into jiu jitsu following a break from COVID. He logged 244 days on sporting activities in 2022. In 2023 his focus is on further his research goals on managing knee injures and spending more time volunteering and covering sports events.
